Imaging Expo 2012 in New Orleans

I had the privilege of heading down to New Orleans for the Imaging Expo 2012. I spent 5 incredible days in this energized lively city. 5 Days of learning, checking out new gadgets, listening to great speakers, eating amazing food and experiencing Bourbon St. I had the first day to wonder and explore the french quarter. Saw some great bands perform jazz on the streets and take photos. The best speakers in my opninion were Alex Buono & Joey L. Alex is cinematographer for SNL. He presented amazing tips, advice and resources on DSLR shooting…LOVE IT. Joey was on a whole other level of inspiration. I have been following him on social media for a while now so I obviously jumped at the opportunity to hear him speak at Imaging Expo. I found out at the talk that he grew up in Lindsay, Ontario which I didn’t know…only an hour away from my hometown Whitby, Ontario. He’s my age, lives in NY, is super successful and has travelled a lot. SO INSPIRATIONAL!!!! The take away from his talk that stuck with me is to always have personal projects on the go. Projects that allow you to establish your style and passion. Anyways I’m not good at writing and there’s probably many grammatical errors in this post so I’ll stop ranting and show you some pictures!

Birds Eye View of Vancouver

Within the first week that I started working for Clearly Contacts the company decided they wanted to do a Lipdub. I don’t think the timing could have worked out more perfectly. :) I didn’t film the actual Lipdub but I did shoot the behind the scenes. The best part was I got to shoot some aeriel shots from helicopter (which unfortunately only ended up being used in the credits at the end of the Lipdub). It an enjoyable but also nerve wrecking experience because the pilot literally took the door off so I could film out. Yep, scary stuff. Anyways here’s some shots of Vancity that I took after we flew over Clearly to get the aeriel shots.

Prior to "boarding" ha--Note the Pilot taking off the door

Havana

In January of this year I was lucky to work on feature length film 3 Days in Havana taking their unit stills. The film stars Kathleen Robertson & Gil Bellows. The first half was shot in Vancouver then we went down to Havana for almost 2 weeks. It was an amazing experience and I’m really looking forward to seeing the film upon completion.  Unfortunately I can’t share any stills from the actually the film stills until it’s released but I did manage to take some photo’s of Havana. I didn’t post all of them here but if you’d like to see  more please check out the album I posted on FB.  It was an amazing experience to be shooting in Havana because I got to see sooo much that I would have never seen if I was a tourist. Saw lots of culture compared to the first time I went there when I rarely left the all inclusive resort I was staying in. Sad to see the conditions that a majority of the population has to live in but at the same time they all seem very happy….it was interesting.

Stills from “Colouring On The Walls” Short Film

Crazy 8s is an 8 day film challenge that is held annually. This year was my first time participating…as the Stills Photographer of course. This film was directed by Shaun Mckinlay. A behind the scenes look at the film:

Below are some unit stills from the film. Unit stills are generally used to promote the film, used in posters, electronic press kits, etc.

Grayson

I’ve been going through over my 130,000 photos I’ve taken over the past few years so I can post them up here on my blog to showcase more of my work. So be prepared for MANY blogs posts over the next few days. That’s what happens when you don’t keep on top of blogging updating portfolios. :( I don’t want to post them all on FB and they certainly all cant go on my website…so they will go up here!

These pictures are from when I went back to my hometownWhitby, Ontario in the summer of 2010. The newest addition to my family is little Grayson, my Cousins first born. :)
